The changing season

I just finished assessing all the children on Kindergarten math concepts.  The students worked one on one with me or Mrs. Lardi on everything from patterns to addition.  We will test the students 2 more times this year in math.  The most important things that we need to work on now is the identification of numerals zero to thirty and making patterns.  Please work on these concepts at home.  It was a lot of fun working one on one with the children and seeing how their math brains work!

We have also been discussing the seasons and Johnny Appleseed.  I read the Gail Gibbons book The Seasons of Arnold's Apple Tree and the children worked on an art project with the assistance of Maddie's mom.

Busy, happy Kindergarteners!

Wow, we have been working hard over the past 21 days.  It feels as if your children have been in my class much longer than that.  They have adapted to our routines and become members of the Monroe Elementary community in such a short time.  They are very kind to one another and are making friends at their tables and during stations.  I just wanted to let you know about a few of the things that we have been doing in our classroom.

*writing numerals zero through nine
*rhyming
*label books
*writing letters Oo, Cc, Ss, Vv, Ww, Tt
*sight words.  Is, the, I, me
*seasons

Next week the children will learn about Johnny Appleseed and discuss the changing season.   As always please contact me with any questions.

Kindergarten 2012-2013

It was wonderful to meet all of you on Back to School night.  This blog will serve as communication about what is happening in the classroom and at school.

Please remember that your child should have a folder for Kindergarten and a separate folder for Kinder Academy.

Please label all coats and sweatshirts that come into school.

Please send in a small snack each day for your child.

Things to work on at home:
*formation of upper and lowercase Cc, Oo, Ss, Vv
*formation of numbers1 through 10
*memorization of first and last name, address and phone number
*shoe tying
