Cynthia Rylant

Cynthia is our featured author this month. We have been using her books as mentor texts and will be reading her popular series Henry and Mudge.

What's happening in room 24?

I can't believe that January is almost over. I am writing this new post from my iPad that the children will be able to use during small group work. I am very excited for the children to try out our new classroom toy!

Scholastic orders are due this week. You can also order books online.
I will be sending out a class list so the children can get started on their Valentine cards.
The children will be starting new WYNN groups this week. Ask your child who their reading teacher is now.
We have been exploring measurement in both math and science. Ask your child how we measured with links. Also encourage them to estimate and measure things at home with non-standard units.
All the children are being assessed in math. This is the same assessment that we did in September. It is amazing the progress that they have made!
We will be making predictions about the groundhog this week.

Each night the children should be completing tasks in their reading bags and reading their books and sight words.

Happy New Year!

The children have had a wonderful week back to school!

They were all so happy to be in their pajamas today and I was so proud of them for getting this reward for their great behavior during the first half of the school year.

We did not go to library this week so please send any library books that you may have at home back on Monday.

We measured with our gingerbread men rulers yesterday. The children had so much fun comparing things that were different lengths. Encourage them to use these rulers at home and make predictions before they measure.

Things to work on this month:
**Sight Words
**Counting by 10's to 100
**Counting to 100 by ones
**Identification and formation of shapes including rhombus and hexagon
**Play war with cards - flip 2 cards over and decide which card is greater

Questions to ask your Kindergartener:
What special did you go to today? What did you do?
How many links are on your classroom chain that represents the days of school?
Who sits at your table?
Did you get a special job this week?
Who is your station partner?

As always thanks for all of your help and support. The children are making great strides from all of the hard work at school and at home!
