Hooway for Wodney Wat

Our school guidance counselor Mrs Young read Hooway for Wodney Wat on Friday. It is a story about a little rat who has little confidence but triumphs in the end. We all really enjoyed the story and Mrs. Young taught the children how to problem solve on their own and be more assertive. She role played by giving the children these simple sentence starters:

I feel ..................
When you...............
Please.............

Discuss this and practice with your child.

March goes in like a lion. . .

That saying holds true about the weather and our busy days in our Kindergarten classroom.

I just finished assessing the children in reading, science and on personal information. It is wonderful to get to spend time with them one on one and see all the progress they have made. Their personalities certainly shine through during this one on one time. Many times this month children have had me laughing to the point of tears by their responses to questions I asked!

We have begun reviewing the formation of each letter of the alphabet. We will probably review 3 letters per week with homework to follow. Please stress correct letter formation at home.
WYNN reading groups will look a little different during the month of March. The reading teachers will be assisting the upper grades throughout their CMT testing. They will only take groups Mondays and Fridays. The rest of the week the students will stay in the classroom for reading instruction. Ask your child what they are doing in their new groups and make sure that you are reading nightly.

The World According to Humphrey is our book for our school wide book club. I just began reading it to my son and it is a delightful story. I encourage you to read it at home with your family.

Conferences will be held on the morning of March 27th, March 28th from 10:30-12 and on the evening of March 29th. These conferences are optional.
