So glad to hear that everyone survived the storm with little damage. It was a long week for all. I really missed the children and I am sure that you missed sending them to Kindergarten!
We have been very busy trying to get back on track. We are finishing assessments and getting ready for report cards and conferences. This is an exciting time when we can sit down, one on one and talk about how wonderful your children are. They are all working very hard and we are giving them the best support that we can when things don't come as easy. I am really proud of them each day and they have grown so much!
We are still going to finish our author's study on Doreen Cronin and end it by reading Duck for President and having an election!
What can you do at home?
- Read each night - make it part of your bedtime routine. Sign the calender in your child's folder.
-Have them practice any activities in their reading bags. They are very proud of their special reading bags. Encourage them to show it off when relatives come to visit.
-Ask them about things that get sent home. Who helped them? Did they find it easy? Can they read you the words or the numbers on the paper?
-We switched station partners. Ask them about their new partner and what they do in stations.
Looking forward to seeing you all in the next few weeks.

Week of October 22nd
We have introduced 2 new authors this week:
Donald Crews and Doreen Cronin
We will use Donald Crews' books as mentor texts for writing.
We will be having an author's study on Doreen Cronin's Duck books. We will be looking at the character traits of both Duck and Farmer Brown and deciding who would make a better President. We will end this study by reading Duck for President and having an election.
Please review patterns at home. Ask your child to make an AB, ABC, AABB, AAB or ABCD pattern.
We are studying the weather and temperature. This would be a great conversation to have in the morning before school.
We have also reviewed 3-D shapes. Our focus is on cubes, cylinders, cones, spheres and rectangular prism. Ask your child to find these shapes around the house or at the grocery store.
Halloween Party and Parade:
Please don't forget to send your child into school this Friday, October 26th with their Halloween costume in a bag labelled with their name. Our parade will begin at 10:30 if you are coming in to watch.

Popcorn Day and other reminders
Tomorrow is popcorn day. If your child would like to buy popcorn, please send them with 50 cents tomorrow in an envelope or baggie. They will have popcorn during snack and should not need another snack other than a drink.
Please help your child with correct number formation. Their monster number packet went home and they were very excited about them.
I hope that you got to see your child's fall label book. We had a lot of fun illustrating them and writing them. Please allow them to show them off to visitors at your house and encourage them to read that book.
Enjoy the long weekend - no school on Monday
We will have our first Mystery Reader tomorrrow! Ask your child about the reader when they get home.
